A Safer East Brighton

This New Deal for Communities (NDC) theme has projects that reduce the levels of crime, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime in the local area. A number of men with violent histories have worked with our Domestic Violence project to complete our successful 36 week Living Without Violence programme to help them learn new non-abusive behaviours within their relationships.

Despite changes in police recording systems that were expected to significantly increase recorded crime, the level of crime in the NDC area has only increased by 2.5%. This is still below our target to reduce crime levels by 2010 and is still significantly below the city average.

Community Payback is now in place across the whole of East Brighton. The scheme works with ex-offenders to carry out improvements to the local environment in partnership with local residents.
